EVP Recordings

In White Noise, Michael Keaton plays Jonathan Rivers, who is shattered by the unexplained disappearance and death of his wife, Anna. Jonathan is contacted by a man (Ian McNeice), who claims to be receiving messages from Anna through EVP recordings. At first skeptical, Jonathan then becomes convinced of the EVP recordings validity, and is soon obsessed with trying to contact her on his own. His further explorations into the EVP recording mystery unknowingly opens a door to another world, allowing something uninvited into his life.

About EVP recordings: To obtain an EVP recording, it is best to use a cassette tape deck with external microphone, tape counter, and mechanical controls that allow easy, repeated review of the voices. Vocalize your comments during an EVP recording session. Begin an experiment by speaking your name and the date. Many experimenters begin with a short prayer and an invitation to friends on the other side to participate in the EVP recordings. It has been found that entities often come through as soon as the recorder is turned on. These beginning messages are often the loudest, so it is a good idea to turn on the recorder and wait a few seconds before announcing yourself and then ask questions. Your questions should be a part of the EVP recordings, and you should leave a period of time between each comment for the entities to respond.
